This week, Eric interviews Benjamin L. Corey, the author of Unafraid: Moving Beyond Fear-Based Faith. In this new book published by HarperOne, Corey describes his experience of a crisis of faith in which he discovers that he had not actually lost his Christian faith, but that he had to admit that the American version of Christianity that he had been taught, based in fear of God and, often, each other, was neither workable or believable. This discovery led to an examination of the Bible and his life to see what the Christian faith was really all about.
Through the process, Corey realized that he wasn’t alone. And, in reading the book, so did Eric, as you will hear in our interview.
Benjamin L. Corey is an author, speaker, blogger for the popular site Formerly Fundie, and a leader in the Emerging Church Movement and progressive Christianity overall. Corey is a scholar and public theologian, a two-time graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary with graduate degrees in theology and missiology, and also holds a doctorate in intercultural studies from Fuller Theological Seminary.
His work has been featured in Time, Sojourners, and Red Letter Christians, and he is a regular guest on “Tell Me Everything with John Fugelsang.”
He is the author of Undiluted: Rediscovering the Radical Message of Jesus. His latest book, Unafraid: Moving Beyond Fear-Based Faith is available in bookstores now.
